In the luxurious confines of our spa like consultation rooms with back massage chair, your initial appointment will consist of a relaxed consultation for evaluation of your medical history, the problem or condition prompting your visit and to determine your desires with respect to your desired outcome. We will make a determination or confirmation of your diagnosis and formulation of a properly sequenced, customized treatment plan to manage the findings of this encounter. If sufficient diagnostic imaging studies (x-rays) of the area of concern are unavailable from referring doctors, additional (separately charged) x-rays services will be performed to aid in both your diagnosis and to help you understand your treatment options. Occasionally, surgery can be performed the same day as the consultation. However, a complex medical history or treatment plan will require an evaluation and a second appointment to provide treatment on another day.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
• Your surgical referral slip and any x-rays if applicable. [Small periapical radiographs (inside the mouth x-rays) are often insufficient for comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and in such circumstances a panoramic radiograph (around the outside of the head x-ray) or other radiographs will be taken].
• A list of medications you are presently taking, with their dosage strength and schedule or frequency of use. (This includes over-the counter pills, drugs and medicines {aspirin, ibuprophen, etc.} as well as any herbal or nutritional agents {vitamins}).
• A list of any allergies to drugs, medicines or environmental agents (i.e. latex).
• A list of any prior surgical procedures or hospitalizations and dates.
• The names and telephone numbers of your general dentist and primary care physician.
• If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the membership card and/or necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.
IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit. We also recommend strongly that young adults over the age of 18, who are still living with their parents also have them present.
A preoperative consultation and physical examination is mandatory for patients undergoing IV anesthesia for surgery. Please have nothing to eat or drink eight hours prior to your surgery. Failure to do so, can create a life threatening complication during your anesthetic exposure. Should you require any oral medication during this time interval, please consult with our office about how to proceed. You will also need a responsible adult to drive you home and this individual must remain on the premises in our reception area during the entire course of the procedure. Failure to comply with this policy will result in cancellation of the procedure and additional financial charges.
Please alert the office if you have any special medical condition that may be of concern, or that we should be aware of prior to surgery (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, or any other conditions for which you have been advised by a physician to take antibiotic prophylactic measures prior to surgery, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medication (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.).
X-Rays
If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request from them that they forward them to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our newly renovated facility, where state of the art digital radiography is available.
Our new Sirona Orthophos XG Plus digital X-ray system is more efficient and reduces radiation dosage exposure, compared with conventional analog film-based systems, to the patients by up to 30% (panoramic imaging), 60% (cephalometric imaging), and 90% (intraoral imaging), at the same time delivering an outstanding enhanced diagnostic imaging quality.
THIS UNIT ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR C-T SCANS TO BE DONE AT HOSPITAL MAKING DENTAL IMPLANT PLACEMENT EASIER AND MORE PREDICTABLE
In addition to standard views this unit presents outstanding opportunities of enhanced information through the use of Transversal Section Programs of multiple layer and wide-beam tomography with some sections with a thickness of one millimeter or less. This technique gives reliable information in a cross section plane and confidence in the diagnosis. It is of course possible to show every tooth bearing segment of the jaws, which is extremely beneficial in dental implant planning and placement and in cases of pathology.
